The First Amendment guarantees religious freedom in separate clauses that are often in tension with one another.  One prohibits the establishment of religion by the government, and the other prevents the government from infringing on an individual’s free exercise of religion.  Join us for an update on how the courts have interpreted these two clauses within the public school environment.

Happy Holiday for All- Balancing Observance and Objections
As the Christmas season approaches, you may get tricky questions or dreaded lawsuits about holiday displays and symbols, observing religious holidays, or religious objections to holidays. This presentation will focus on permissible holiday observances and programs while examining what accommodations should be available for students and staff observing or objecting to religious holidays and observances. The presentation will also address the common holiday displays and symbols and when they are appropriately used in the school environment.
